SUMMARY:The New Local Govt Act- What does it mean for Main streets ?
DESCRIPTION:Victoria’s new Local Government Bill is in its final consultation phase. The closing date for submissions has been extended to Friday\, 16 March 2018 at 5pm. Mainstreet Australia along with many others Councils has been keeping a keen eye on this process and provided submissions to ensure that the processes and procedures to declare Special Rates and Charges for the purposes of marketing and promotion of main streets are streamlined and the provisions of the Act cut red tape. \nThe recently released exposure Draft of the Local Government Bill marks the fourth and final stage of public consultation and we think its important that we come together and discuss the impact of the likely changes \, and what it all means for council staff\, business associations and main street businesses. Is there still roadblocks? do we still need changes? will this facilitate a more effective process for us? what would we still like included? \nWe are very pleased to have this workshop attended by Peter Lucas from Macquarie Lawyers who will lead this open discussion and explain the changes and likely impacts. \nMainstreet Australia plans to submit another submission post this workshop and welcome as much input as possible from our stakeholders. Further information on how we will co-ordinate this will be available on the night. \nBookings at – https://localgovactma.eventbrite.com.au/ \n
